Morning Sunshine
It’s good to see the sun coming through the trees at the back of the garden in the mornings now. It manages to shine through the stained glass window installed in a bit of a wall at the bottom of the garden. It looks like there’s another job for the list – the paintwork needs…

How many Blackcurrants?
Susan has been watching the Blackcurrants turn black over the last week or so. Picking a time to harvest them is a balance between waiting for them to become ripe and harvesting them before the birds do. Today was the day. Harvest – Wash – Top and Tail – Freeze. Oh and of course, count!…

Wriggling Tadpoles
True to form, we now have a couple of thousand tadpoles I’d estimate. They group together in their frogspawn groups and seem to be eating what’s left of the spawn jelly as well as popping up for air. Open up the Post to see the video.

Duck inspection
We’ve had a few ducks in the pond over the last few years. This year’s visitors hadn’t settled when I saw them, they were still checking out the place. A pair of ducks wandering around the garden checking us out. On one of our many Open Gardens visits we visited a rear garden of a…

Fruit Harvest
It’s a while since we’ve had a post – this seemed worthy or a comment or two. Here’s Susan straight from the garden along with a bumper crop of gooseberries. We’ve been enjoying fresh and tasty fruit straight from the garden for a while now – Strawberries, Rhubarb, Blackcurrants and Gooseberries. Even with our appetite…

Garden Bird Feeders
Especially during the recent cold spell the birds have been coming to feed on the seeds, etc. that we have for them in the garden. Here are a few short video clips of some of the birds we’ve seen. Oh – and a little surprise visitor or two in the dark!

Gnome care.
We have several gnomes and animals hiding amongst the flowers and bushes in the garden. Every so often they need to come in to be cleaned and sometimes painted – now is that time. So, the gnomes and animals have been in the conservatory for a few days drying out. Now Susan gets on with…

Autumn Colours
No need to visit New England for the Autumn Colours – you can enjoy the season here in “old” England. Ready for the window cill – these Chinese Lantern Seed Pods bring Autumn colour into the house. A recent visit to Down House, the home of Darwin, revealed the Autumn colour on this climbing plant.

Squirrel Snack
We often see a squirrel or two in the garden, mainly trying to circumvent the protection we give to the bird seed, etc. This one is seen on camera snacking on a fallen crab apple.
