Derwent Valley Heritage Way

Newstead Abbey

Ok, it’s not quite within 10 miles (around 13 miles as the crow flies) but it’s fairly local and a good place to go for a walk around. It’s known for its links with Lord Byron.

There is plenty of parkland to wander around with lakes and waterfalls. There are also formal walled gardens and the Japanese Garden. These are good to see now – in their heyday they would have been spectacular.

Some parts of the gardens, such as the Rock Garden, are good for a stroll but need a bit of tlc to bring them back to their former glory.
